Who are the retreats for?

The Writer’s Keep welcomes writers at all stages, from first ideas to completed manuscripts. You do not need to be published or highly experienced — only ready to spend focused time on your writing.

What is included?

Inclusions vary by retreat. Hosted retreats typically include accommodation, writing workshops, dedicated writing time, breakfast and evening meals. Please check the individual retreat page for exact details.

How many writers attend?

Our hosted retreats are deliberately small, with some limited to a maximum of six writers. This allows for a relaxed atmosphere, individual attention and plenty of uninterrupted writing time.

Will I have my own room?

Yes. Your booking includes the room type you select, subject to availability.

Bedrooms are designed with writers in mind, with comfortable sleeping and writing spaces.

Are the bathrooms private?

No. Bathroom facilities are shared.

Guests have access to a modern shower room with a rainfall shower and a separate bathroom with a restored clawfoot bath. Towels and toiletries are provided.

Are meals included?

Hosted retreats include the meals listed on the individual retreat page.

Where lunch is not included, Conwy has a good selection of cafés, bakeries and places to eat within walking distance.

Self-catered stays do not include hosted meals unless specifically stated.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

We will do our best to accommodate dietary requirements when notified in advance.

If you have a serious allergy or an essential dietary requirement, please contact us before booking so we can confirm whether we can accommodate you safely.

Will I have time to work independently?

Yes. Independent writing time is central to the retreat.

Workshops are designed to support your work rather than fill every hour of your stay. There is also time to walk, explore Conwy, read or simply think.

Will I have to share my writing?

You may be invited to discuss ideas or take part in workshop exercises, but you will not be pressured to share work you are uncomfortable sharing.

The atmosphere is intended to be constructive, supportive and informal.

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely. Many guests attend writing retreats alone.

The small group format provides a balance between company and solitude, so you can meet other writers without losing the quiet space you came for.

Where is The Writer’s Keep?

The Writer’s Keep is in the historic town of Conwy in North Wales, within the medieval town walls and close to Conwy Castle, the quay, cafés, restaurants and independent shops.

Do I need a car?

No. Conwy is accessible by rail and much of the town can be explored on foot.

We will send detailed arrival information before your retreat.

Is the house accessible?

The Writer’s Keep is a historic property and may not be suitable for every mobility requirement.

If accessibility is important to your stay, please contact us before booking so we can explain the layout and discuss your needs.

What should I bring?

Bring your laptop or notebook, your current manuscript or notes, comfortable clothes and suitable footwear for exploring Conwy.

Most importantly, bring the project you want to make progress on.

How do I book?

Choose your retreat and follow the Book Now link.

Your booking is confirmed once the required payment has been received and you have received confirmation from us.

What happens after I book?

You will receive confirmation and practical information about your stay.

For hosted retreats, we may also ask you to complete a short writing questionnaire so we can understand your project and what you would most like to achieve.

What if I need to cancel?

Please contact us as soon as possible.

Cancellation and refund arrangements are set out in our Booking & Cancellation Terms.

Can I extend my stay?

Additional nights may sometimes be available. Please contact us and we will let you know what is possible.
